Generation Hope
We welcomed a new family member today. Outraged and loud, he announced his arrival
into this world. His parents beaming with pride, I have a new cousin.
So far he has two other cousins that share his generation; another boy born last year,
a girl only eight months ago. I wonder at their future, I wonder if family ties will remain strong.
I contemplate their new lives as I continue to live mine. They will be taught the history,
the traditions; customs, cultural heritage and pride. The mixing, blending of races, colorblind.
Born into a country which touts democracy, born into a country at war. Born into a family
of those who have proudly served and continue to serve....for freedom... I hereby name this new generation, Generation
Hope.
Welcome, little one.

Simple
The sun is shining today with a nice southeasterly tradewind
blowing.
The clothes dryer is there, but I prefer
to hang my wash on the line.
Somehow the sunshine and the snapping
of sheets in the fresh breeze is soothing.
My offering of sorts to the powers that
be-for a tantrum past-it's that simple.
To be content with the way life is these
days, and the fact I am alive...yeah, I try. ©2005/Susan Britton
